I'm your friendly neighbourhood Environmental Science Expert. With over 15 years of exploring the wonders of our planet (and a bit of data wizardry), I've found my calling in unravelling Earth's mysteries and solving real-world puzzles in energy, agriculture, and transportation. Think of me as a detective but for environmental data!

My toolkit?

A mix of data analysis, weather forecasting (minus the TV weatherman bit), climate predictions, and some serious coding chops. And, oh, I’m pretty adept with cloud tech, too – both AWS and Azure are like my digital playgrounds.

Leading R&D teams and diving into commercial projects has taught me one crucial thing – understanding client needs is as important as a good cup of coffee in the morning (and trust me, I love my coffee). So, whether it’s crafting sustainable solutions or decoding complex data, I’m all about making science cool, approachable, and, most importantly, useful for our planet and the people on it.

SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR

I provide technical and scientific solutions regarding next-generation numerical modelling and data science infrastructures in the Cloud and assist with environmental modelling requirements considering the latest developments in the field and stakeholders' needs.

2019-2022

New Zealand Meteorological Services (MetService & MetraWeather)

HEAD OF R&D DEPARTMENT

I led operational and R&D activities in numerical modelling, data science, satellite processing, and AWS-based HPCs. I managed stakeholder engagement and relationships and performed as a product manager of modelling and data science. During this time, I also contributed as a core expert to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Expert Team on Aeronautical Meteorological Science (ET-MHS).

2018-2019

Senior SCIENTIST

I led the company's numerical modelling team. I consulted various clients in the renewable energy sector (wind & solar) regarding resource assessments and demand prediction and led the migration of an on-demand numerical modelling system to the Cloud.

I contributed to various R&D projects with an emphasis on high-resolution numerical predictions, maintained and tuned NWPs, and improved post-processing and fine-tuning systems.

Postdoctoral Researcher

I investigated the climate (focusing on wind and energy fluxes) of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica & modelled snow transport over Antarctic Sea Ice. I also contributed to developing a set of weather and climate prediction tools to improve understanding of the impacts of climate change on the viticulture industries of New Zealand and South Africa.

Graduate Researcher

I investigated the post-processing of ensemble prediction systems using Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA).

My main focus and thesis were on high-resolution numerical and statistical simulation of the wind patterns and mesoscale circulations over an urban area in the vicinity of complex topography. I also analysed the pollution distribution patterns over the area of study.

Climate modelling and downscaling climate scenarios were the heart of my master's thesis. For that, I modelled and analysed the orographic influence of the Zagros Mountains on the climatology of the leeward side of the mountain range.
